Bye Bye Skylight's debut ep Too Cynical for Two is hypnotic, darkly sensual electronic hard rock drizzled with ambient and dance. Driven by Thom Kunz's imaginatively eerie synth instrumentation, tribal drum programming, and Addie Wuensch's sultry vocals, the result is charged collection, each song a small journey into equal worlds dark and light.
Kunz and Wuensch first worked together in 2015 on Kunz's solo album Paper Brain. Wuensch’s voice is a warm embrace, an alarming siren, a soothing wave, a playful flirt, and maybe even a serial killer. She toys with verses and wordplay in ingenious ways. Sometimes she’s flat-out possessed and then lovingly holds the listener in her arms.
These four songs pack a synergy and completeness, a whole equally interesting as its parts. One thing is clear – Kunz and Wuensch have created an incredible world of angels, demons, and soundscapes. Recommended for those wanting to peek inside the darkness and take comfort in the found light along the way.
